Hi

Description:

HPUX 11.23 ITANIUM rx2600. Do not boot with error:

Alert level 3: Warning

Keyword: MEM_DIMM_THERMAL_LOAD_ORDER_WARN

DIMM thermal loading order warning

Logged by: System Firmware 0

Solution:

1. According to HPUX:

Cause 1 : The current DIMM loading order does not follow the guidelines in the user manual
Recommended Action1 : Rearrange the DIMMs to follow the loading order specified in the Maintenance and Operational Manual

Memory order recommendations:

* Memory must be installed in DIMM pairs.
* The capacity of DIMMs within a pair must be the same.
* Install DIMMs with the greatest capacity in the lowest numbers.
* Install DIMMs the following slot order: 0a/b, 1a/b, 2a/b, 3a/b, and
so on.

I opened a case and found that server have 4 pairs of memory installed in 0,1,5,6 a/b slots.

I rearranged it to 0,1,2,3 and server started to boot.

But that was not major error which prevent OS from start. Hard disk has been damaged and i reinstalled OS.

So this issue with memory is really not critical, it only prevent you from seeing really critical issue.

Thank you.
