Hi

Description:

HPUX 11.23, need to install Oracle DB from iso file.

Solution:

1. Look for current volume group and free disks on system (i have only one default vg – vg00):

# vgdisplay -v vg00

 — Physical volumes —
PV Name                     /dev/dsk/c2t0d0    (pay attention for used PV)
   PV Status                   available
   Total PE                    4374
   Free PE                     0
   Autoswitch                  On
   Proactive Polling           On

# ioscan -fnkCdisk
Class     I  H/W Path       Driver     S/W State   H/W Type     Description
============================================================================
disk      0  0/0/2/0.0.0.0  sdisk      CLAIMED     DEVICE       TEAC    DV-28E-B
                           /dev/dsk/c0t0d0   /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0
disk      1  0/1/1/0.0.0    sdisk      CLAIMED     DEVICE       HP 73.4GST373453LC
                           /dev/dsk/c2t0d0   /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
disk      2  0/1/1/0.1.0    sdisk      CLAIMED     DEVICE       HP 73.4GST373453LC
                           /dev/dsk/c2t1d0   /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0

How we see c2t1d0 is not used and we can use it for LV creation:

Determine the size of iso file (to create a LV)

# du -k /opt/inst/10.2.0.1.0-hpux-pa64-cd1.iso

3347477

# pvcreate -f /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0          (will create PV)

# mkdir /dev/vgdata

# cd /dev/vgdata

# mknod group c 64 0x010000

# vgcreate vgdata  /dev/dsk/c2t1d0          (create VG)

# lvcreate -L 3348 -n lviso /dev/vgdata      (create LV same size as iso file or bigger)

# dd if=/opt/inst/10.2.0.1.0-hpux-pa64-cd1.iso of=/dev/vgdata/rlviso bs=256k           (copy file to LV)

Now mount it and use:

# mkdir /isodir

# mount /dev/vgdata/lviso /isodir

# ls /isodir/
client        clusterware   companion     database      doc           gateways      index         index.pdx     welcome.html

Well done!

Thank you.
