Hi

Description:

Solaris 11 LDOM guest server. I want to create Solaris 10 branded zone on it using Oracle utility solaris-10u11-sparc.bin

Errors:

# ./solaris-10u11-sparc.bin -z ldom10z -a 10.10.17.237

Select a network interface for the zone:
No valid network interface found on the system
Exiting

Solution:

1. Check available network interfaces on LDOM guest server:

# dladm show-phys -m
LINK                SLOT     ADDRESS            INUSE CLIENT
net0                primary  0:21:f6:d6:d3:e5   yes   net0
net1                primary  0:21:f6:51:be:4d   yes   net1

So, what is going on. All interfaces on server are physical from LDOM guest side and virtual from LDOM host, because of it utility wont use them.

If we give interface name in command line we will get next error:

# ./solaris-10u11-sparc.bin -z ldom10z -a 10.10.17.237 -i net1

net1 is a vnet that is not valid interface, exiting

To solve that we need to give additional mac address to the interface.

2. On LDOM host server:

# ldm list-domain
NAME             STATE      FLAGS   CONS    VCPU  MEMORY   UTIL  NORM  UPTIME
primary          active     -n-cv-  UART    8     8G       1.2%  1.2%  35d 4h 39m
0004fb00000600004fdf5c24e7d4db29 active     -n—-  5001    25    32G      0.0%  0.0%  13m
0004fb0000060000ff1d3d8336112f6f active     -n—-  5000    50    64G      0.0%  0.0%  10d 11h 39m

In my case LDOM guest server name is 0004fb0000060000ff1d3d8336112f6f (you can stop it from OVMM also).

# ldm stop 0004fb0000060000ff1d3d8336112f6f
LDom 0004fb0000060000ff1d3d8336112f6f stopped
# ldm unbind 0004fb0000060000ff1d3d8336112f6f
# ldm set-vnet alt-mac-addrs=auto,auto net1 0004fb0000060000ff1d3d8336112f6f (add additional MAC)
# ldm bind 0004fb0000060000ff1d3d8336112f6f

# ldm start 0004fb0000060000ff1d3d8336112f6f
LDom 0004fb0000060000ff1d3d8336112f6f started

3. Now on LDOM guest you will see 2 MAC's on the same interface:

# dladm show-phys -m
LINK                SLOT     ADDRESS            INUSE CLIENT
net0                primary  0:21:f6:d6:d3:e5   yes   net0
net1                primary  0:21:f6:51:be:4d   yes   net1
                    1        0:14:4f:f9:31:22   no    --
                    2        0:14:4f:f9:e6:96   no    --

Create VNIC on that interface. You will have real VNIC from LDOM guest and LDOM host sides:

# dladm create-vnic vnic1 -l net1

4. Start utility:

# ./solaris-10u11-sparc.bin -z ldom10z -a 10.10.17.237 -i vnic1

Installation will be successful.

Thank you.
